Who We Are
A Ministry of Lord of Glory Lutheran Church
We are a state licensed preschool facility dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus with children and families that come into contact with us.
Our culturally diverse student body enjoys the academic challenges presented to them through our curriculum based program.
We recognize that positive interactions and development during the preschool years are a foundation to future educational successes. We also believe spiritual needs are an element of this development. As a Christian preschool we want our children to know that they are special and loved by Jesus. This message is conveyed daily by the teaching of prayers, music, and songs at group and snack time; Bible stories in circle time as well as chapel talks with Pastor Brian and Lord of Glory Ministry Team members.
We offer classes for all children 2 years to 5 years of age. Gloryland admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarships and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
What We Do
ABC's are truly a part of our program. We talk about and look for letters throughout the day. Each week we have a "Letter of the Week" and we work a home-school connection by having children bring in an item that starts with the first letter of the Letter of the Week. The children put the item in the classroom letter bucket. These items get talked about during circle time and shared with the class.
The children will use different hands on ways to make the letters and identify them during center time.
Songs and visual aides are used to help children remember the letters. We have been using Learning Without Tears writing and letter recognition curriculum.
Individual creativity presents itself through Arts and Crafts. Children have an opportunity to explore many different kinds of media each day they are in school. Craft projects are developed through the themes of the week and reflect what is being learned in class. Paint, clay, glue, tissue paper, stampers, crayons, markers, crayons, and watercolors are just some of the items that are used regularly.
We also have many moments during this part of the school day to work on proper grip for writing and cutting with scissors.
"Jesus Loves Me" is the main message that we want to share with our children. We do that in a number of ways. The children learn short prayers to begin the day, prep for snack, and end the day. They learn and sing positive songs about Jesus and how to treat each other. The teachers share a bible story each week with their class, and the older students have Chapel Time.
Pastor Brian Davies as well as Lord of Glory Ministry Team members conduct chapel experiences with the 3's and 4's classes 2 times a month in the church. They will talk to the children and teach lessons on bible stories with the use of creative visual aides or actively singing movement songs. The time is quite interactive and the children look forward to this.
Each class utilizes Concordia Publishing House Bible Story curriculum for early childhood education.
Squeezing playdough, zipping coats, using tweezers to pick up items or to craft with, buttoning up clothes to put on a baby doll, arranging mini cars and stacking small blocks are fun ways to build strength in little hands. This will get them ready for writing or using scissors. These things are done daily when children begin their day at Gloryland. We pay close attention to how children are doing these tasks. During center time teachers have one on one times with the children to see how they are utilizing their fine motor skills and work to help strengthen that pincher grasp.
Music is brought into our preschool experience the moment you walk into the multipurpose room of our preschool. We stream classical music to create a calm atmosphere before the children walk into their own classrooms. Each classroom teacher utilizes music in the background of their day as well as actively teaching with it throughout the day. Children have access to instruments as well as opportunities to create their own.
We have a song of the year that is practiced throughout the year. Music is used to teach concepts to children about proper behavior, being kind, cleaning up, and that Jesus loves them.
The concept of rhythm that is taught through music can lend power to many other aspects of learning. We also know that children just love music. It is a very important part of our programs.
We like to count and we like to teach about numbers. These experiences happen through music, songs and books that talk about numbers. These experiences also happen when children are in their centers putting stickers on their number page, counting manipulatives for a game, sorting pieces for a project, or lining up to go outside. The use of numbers is something that the children encounter many times throughout the day. The Learning Without Tears curriculum is used to work with numbers.
Each week your child will experience a new theme. During the course of the week this theme is taught through the use of good children's books. The teachers read them, the children have access to them, and they are used at center time. Because the children are immersed in print, they begin to recognize some of the 50 most common used words. More importantly they exposed to great childrens books that teach a multitude of life skills as well as take them on a journey in their mind. Questions about story content, characters and making predictions are aspects of reading that we include daily. Classes will use certain books as inspiration for projects or themes.
Writing in it's beginning stages happen at Gloryland. We work with making pictures and at forming letters getting children to write their name. Capital letters and lower case are both taught. Learning Without Tears curriculum is used to work with letters and numbers.
